The first nurse that we would like to recognize is Kathy Faber.
Kathy Faber MSN, RN, Clinical Nurse Leader was the recipient of the 2008 Aspiring Nurse Leader Award by the Organization of Nurse Executives of New Jersey (ONE/NJ) for her initiative on the Discharge Process of the Neonate, in which the average lengths of stay have decreased by 2.18 days in 2008. In addition Kathy has been selected as the recipient of the Academy of Neonatal Nursing's 2009 Excellence in Neonatal Nursing Practice Award. Some of her initiatives include: The Maternal Child Division Thermoregulation Collaborative in which the admission temperatures of the extremely low birth weight infant (< 1000 grams) have improved by 41% from 2006-2009 reaching their goal of below the Vermont Oxford benchmark. The implementation of Plans of Care by Gestational Age, and development of a task force to review, standardize and develop Evidence-based Plans of Care for nursing practice in the NICU, Intermediate, and Regular nurseries. Improved patient and nursing satisfaction was achieved as a result of the Parents as Partners initiative in which Family Centered Care is the focus to establish ownership by the family, re-establishing their confidence, trust and commitment to the infant's care on their journey from our home to theirs.
