1) Create a sustainable professional organization to support and promote CNLs and their contributions to clinical outcomes and organizational success in all practice settings.
- a) Advocate for CNLs as a distinct advanced generalist nursing position within the microsystem and in collaboration with the macrosystem.
- b) Create a supportive infrastructure to advance the CNL role.
- c) Support practicing CNLs in the extension of the role into new practice settings across the health care continuum.
2) Create relevant forums for CNLs to sustain, collaborate, network and celebrate CNL contributions in all practice settings.
- a) Through a yearly conference, quarterly newsletter updates and web site access.
- b) Development of regional chapters as the membership numbers increase to support the chapters planned for North and South East, North and South West and Central States.
- c) Creation of issue forums.
- d) Provide practice examples, share data, outcomes and impacts on web site and in newsletter.
3) Ensure evidence based practice and innovation is fostered by CNLs to transform point of care outcomes and clinical impact.
- a) Promote evidence based findings as practice protocols are created and implemented.
- b) Promote research into best practice protocols.
- c) Publish evidence based practice research by CNLs on web site.
- d) Recognize achievements and innovations in clinical outcomes through an annual award to be presented at the annual conference. The winner to be determined by the CNLA Board of Directors.
4) Establish critical relationships with interested stakeholders who can anchor the CNL as the recognized integrator of quality and safety at the point of care.
- a) Continue to partner with AACN for annual conference years 2009, 2010 and 2011.
- b) Share administrative costs with AACN through years 2009, 2010 and 2011.
- c) Explore relationships with other professional organizations.
- d) Seek external funding sources that promote and sponsor CNL role development and marketing.
